Niagara Falls in November
The month everybody writes off. Cheapest rates of the year, an empty promenade, and a hard line through the middle of it on 14 November 2026.
November is the only month at Niagara that is genuinely two different trips depending on which week you pick, and almost nobody plans around that.
Before 14 November it is the emptiest, cheapest, greyest month of the year — a bare-branch, low-cloud, nobody- here kind of trip. After it, the largest free light festival in Canada is running along the Parkway and the falls are lit by half past four in the afternoon.
Same month. Same hotel rate, more or less. Completely different day out.

If you want the falls to yourself, come in the first two weeks. If you want the lights, come after the fourteenth. The worst November plan is arriving on the tenth expecting the light festival, which happens more than you would think.
What it actually feels like
Cold, grey and wet more often than not. Highs slide from about 11°C at the start of the month to about 4°C at the end, and the first snow usually turns up in the last ten days. It is the cloudiest month of the year in the Niagara region.
The thing visitors underestimate is not the temperature, it is the mist. The falls throw water into the air constantly, and in November that lands on you cold. A waterproof shell matters more than a thick coat. Standing at Table Rock in November is a wetter experience than the forecast implies.
The upside of all that grey: the gorge under low cloud, with no leaves and no people, is genuinely atmospheric in a way the July postcard never is. Photographers like November for a reason.

What’s open, what’s shut
This is where November trips go wrong. Several headline attractions have closed for the season by now, and the internet is inconsistent about which. The short version:
- Journey Behind the Falls — open. Year round, $33 CAD adult. In November this is the single best thing you can still do at the falls.
- Butterfly Conservatory — open. Year round, warm, and a genuinely welcome twenty minutes when it is 3°C and drizzling.
- White Water Walk and the Whirlpool Aero Car — closed. Both shut for the season.
- The boat — check. The Niagara City Cruise sets its final sailing on weather rather than a fixed date. Do not build a November day around it without confirming.

Wine country is quietly at its best
This is the November move most day-trippers miss. The harvest is in, the tasting rooms are empty, and the people pouring for you actually have time to talk. In July a Niagara-on-the-Lake tasting room is a queue; in November it is a fireplace and a conversation.
It is also icewine season in waiting — the grapes left on the vine under netting through November are the ones picked in the deep cold later in the winter. Ask about it while you are there; most estates will show you the rows.

The money argument
November hotel rates at Niagara Falls are the lowest of the year, frequently under half of the July equivalent for the same room, sometimes with a falls view thrown in because nobody else wants it. Restaurants take walk-ins. Attractions have no queue.
If your constraint is budget rather than weather, November is the correct answer and it is not close. The trade you are making is the boat and two attractions, against grey skies and half-price everything.
Should you come in November?
Come if you want the falls without the crowd, if you are on a budget, if you like a moody landscape, or if you want the light festival without the December queues — the last two weeks of November are the best-value nights of the whole festival.
Do not come if the boat cruise is non-negotiable, if you are chasing autumn colour, or if grey skies ruin a trip for you. In those cases, September or December are the months either side worth looking at.

What is the weather like at Niagara Falls in November?
Daytime highs start around 10–12°C in the first week and fall to roughly 3–5°C by the end of the month, with overnight lows near or below freezing after mid-November. It is the greyest month of the year here — expect cloud more often than not, frequent drizzle, and the first real snow usually late in the month. The mist off the falls makes the promenade feel several degrees colder than the forecast.
Is Niagara Falls busy in November?
It is the quietest month of the year. The autumn colour crowds are gone after the first week, the Christmas traffic has not started, and on a weekday in the second week of November you can stand at the Table Rock railing with almost nobody around you. That changes somewhat once the Winter Festival of Lights opens mid-month, but even then it is a fraction of summer.
What is closed at Niagara Falls in November?
The White Water Walk and the Whirlpool Aero Car close for the season, and on the American side Maid of the Mist and the Whirlpool Jet Boat are done. Journey Behind the Falls stays open year round. The Niagara City Cruise is the uncertain one — the operator sets the final sailing on weather rather than a published date, so check before travelling if the boat matters to you.
When do the Winter Festival of Lights start?
The 2026–27 edition opens 14 November 2026 and runs to 10 January 2027. It is free and outdoors. That date effectively splits November into two different trips.
Are there still fall colours in November?
Only in the first week, and only in patches. Peak colour on the Niagara Parkway is normally mid-October, so by November you are looking at bare oaks and the last of the stragglers. If autumn foliage is the point of the trip, come three to four weeks earlier.
Is November a cheap time to visit Niagara Falls?
It is the cheapest month of the year. Hotel rates in Niagara Falls bottom out in November — often less than half of what the same room costs in July — and there is no competition for restaurant tables or attraction tickets. If budget is the deciding factor and you do not need the boat, November is the answer.
