Treat it like the August peak rather than a shoulder weekend. The promenade between Table Rock and the Rainbow Bridge is at its fullest from roughly 11 AM to 5 PM on Saturday and Sunday. Attraction queues, the boat cruise in particular, are at their longest through the early afternoon.

Niagara Parks lights the falls every night of the year, and through the summer it has run a fireworks series over the gorge on set evenings, typically continuing through the Labour Day weekend before tapering for the autumn.

Getting there from Toronto on a long weekend
The QEW westbound on Saturday morning and eastbound on Monday afternoon are the two pinch points. Leaving Toronto before 8 AM on the Saturday, or after 7 PM on the Monday, avoids the worst of both. The middle of the day on Sunday is usually clear in both directions.

2:30 PM — wine country or the Parkway, when the falls are at their most crowded.
6:00 PM — back at the falls as the day crowd leaves.
8:30 PM — illumination, and fireworks if they are running that night.
